We are fortunate to live and work in a time where technology is moving so fast. We are now able to open up the design process to offer more depth and clarity than ever before even at the very earliest stages.
Gone are the days when several design stages are necessary, and clients are required to sign off on stages of images and abstract 2D representations before really deeply understanding and engaging with how their project is going to look and feel.
While the number of milestones may vary from project to project, VUCA VUCA’s process operates on one fundamental key principle:
One Single 3D Model for Conceptualisation & Documentation
Most design practices still typically involves using at least 5-6 different programs to evolve from Concept to Documentation
This is not usually a fast or accurate way to progress from Concept to Product. Instead, we implement Building Information Modelling (BIM), through Revit software on day one. With this single ever-evolving model we are able to Concept, Document and adjust our model all in a single place with no loss of data
To communicate the experiential qualities of a space we use the Enscape plug-in for Revit, which allows us to walk through a real-time rendered model, tweaking material, lighting, and anything else we need to in order to ensure that we can make our clients happy right on the spot, rather than promising to get back in a couple of weeks’ time with the edits.
We are happy to share details of this process safe in the knowledge that most firms cannot easily pivot to this workflow. Each license costs a few hundred dollars a month, and the learning curve for Revit (less so for Enscape) is pretty steep and requires a lot of time and effort. The value a smaller more agile firm can offer is hard to match with all those big overheads.

Retained Experience of Design & Construction
Worked with VUCA VUCA during our first 12 months alone
Every designed experience eventually becomes an asset. Through Strategy and Feasibility studies, we leverage our wider understanding of marketing, trends and business operations to help our clients understand how their mission, purpose and values can be used to define the project brief and create the most value.
As the relationship between the brand and the consumer becomes deeper and more pervasive, we help our clients originate or refine a clear brand voice from head to toe. This becomes the genesis for all future designed experiences, reminding us why we are developing what we are developing, and who we are developing for.
Experiential understanding of Architecture, Landscape and Interiors enables VUCA VUCA to ensure decisions taken at a macro level are understood at a human scale. Crucially, we also carry appreciation of the key parameters of development economics and infrastructural and environmental engineering.
We see the architectural component as the central melting pot at the heart of the project. We task ourselves with carrying each client’s vision through a series of spatial and operational challenges, emerging with crystalised form and identity, further defined by this very trial.
Through its many direct touchpoints comprising furniture, finishes, lighting sanitary etc., the Interior Design story has the most intimate relationship of all with the guest. If brand is a voice, Interiors must be the face; we strive always to be authentic and show true character in the expression of identity.
The natural world retains an ability to connect with humans on a different level. Landscape Design holds the potential to become the transcendent element of many projects. We pride ourselves on understanding both how and when Landscape should support and star.

James has an extremely rare breadth of experience, having led design and delivery across multiple disciplines (Masterplanning, Architecture, Interiors, Landscape Design and Branding).
Over the last decade, James has developed an extensive appreciation for the business customs and nuances of societies and people throughout the region. Active projects have spanned Singapore, The Maldives, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Korea, Sri Lanka, The Philippines, Thailand, Nepal, China, Oman and the United States.
James is hugely excited at the chance to position VUCA VUCA at the vanguard of the new paradigm emerging in hospitality design. Alongside the convergence of technology, he believes in the movement towards a more thoughtful, measured, humane approach to development, where consumption gives way to empathy and hybrid environments as the primary design drivers of designed experiences.
A VUCA VUCA mindset addresses ‘vUCA-World’ challenges with Vision, Understanding, Clarity & Agility
VISION
By answering the big questions we establish the guidling principles for the market and the product, and this allows the client and designer to commit to a series of design drivers which which to make clear and fast decisions.
UNDERSTANDING
In seeking to deeply understand every facet of the challenge, VUCA VUCA ensure we collect the following key parameters:
CLARITY
Working with clarity means working with efficiency. Once the Vision and Understanding are in place, every design or project decision can be made with confidence through a proven system of processes based on a framework that aligns all stakeholders.
AGILITY
Despite planning for all foreseeable eventualities, every project – without exception – always requires a little reaction to circumstances. Being agile for VUCA VUCA means retaining the ability to find solutions on the spur of the moment, and communicate these to clients and stakeholders without delay to either ensure minimal disruption, or take advantage of momentary fleeting opportunities.
